Long Live Wine Wednesday

In college, Wednesday nights were spent at fraternity houses with my sorority sisters with a box for Franzia at my side. Now, undergrad is done I can’t seem to figure out why a few of my friends think our college traditions (including Wine Wednesday) should be tucked neatly away into a suitcase and forgotten until we one day have a college-age daughter or son. Now, before you start to second guess, I am not trying to recreate a swap or mixer with the near by law school students, but I do believe there is not a good reason why the tradition of Wine Wednesday shouldn’t be carried on.

I can be found spending Wednesday nights cheating on my “no drinking during the week” rule, snuggled up on the sofa with something a little more expensive than boxed wine. (Why did I ever think Franzia was good?!) I believe that it is high time to expand my horizon and either invite a few of my besties over for “book club” or travel to The Boathouse to indulge in their Wine Wednesday specials. Either way I believe it’s our duty to continue the reign of this college tradition, post-graduation and cheers to making it through the first half of the work week!

Charlottesville Weekend Rendezvous

There is something about the fall foliage, savory red wines and crisp Fall air that draws me to Charlottesville this time of year. This weekend I had the best time visiting a dear friend who happens to live extremely close to some of the best wineries in town. We had a lovely time and I would definitely suggest doing it if you are in the area!

We toured and tasted three wineries on our adventure; King Family Vineyards, Pollak Vineyards and Veritas Vineyard and Winery.

It’s obvious why King Family Vineyards was packed the entire time we were there, because of the best selection of wines that we tasted! Their 2011 Meritage was absolutely amazing and I will definitely have to get a few bottles for the holidays! And, I loved that I ran into a few fellow Richmonders too!

The view at Veritas Vineyard and Winery wasn’t the only thing beautiful at the winery! Who couldn’t “love” this focal point while sipping on some local vino!

If you are doing a wine tour you MUST try at least a few of their cheese selections! While at Vertias we chose their cheese platter and were offered all of this for only $15!! It was absolutely delicious and more then we could ever eat.
